As a British International School operating in Olomouc we offer a programme and care that is different in a number of aspects from the local schools. It is the emphasis we put on the development of the whole child, exciting themed based curriculum in our primary or the support we provide to children with different abilities are just a few examples from many that make our school a great place for your child.
We strive to educate the whole child and our focus on social and emotional development is equally important to the academic development.
Our school is divided into Houses, where children of all ages and abilities work together to develop their wider skills. We also organize inter house competitions during the year.
We are proud to be a private school. We do not receive any governmental funding. Our programme is financed through school fees and thus we are independent.
The school year is divided into three terms. Parents receive report on learning at the end of each term.
We put a strong emphasis on the development on subject specific skills rather than on acquisition of knowledge. (If you know a lot of information about skiing that does not make you an excellent skier.) We get children to do things.
We motivate our pupils to be creative with the information they get (it is not enough to memorize when something happened but pupils need more practice in writing about the past or drawing maps and in this actively use what they know)
Our lessons are different in time usually from 40 to 60 minutes depending on the time of the day. Younger children have longer breaks.
We do have homeworks but we see them more as an opportunity to become responsible learners. The content is not so important.
This does not apply to Czech language as we have fewer Czech lessons than in usual Czech schools.

I want to register a childHolidays are similar to Czech holidays. Though we have slightly longer Christmas and Easter breaks to accommodate for our international families who visit their home countries.
Classroom size - we normally have from 10 - 15 students in each class.
Facilities - we have our own science lab and excellent outside field right at the edge of historical city centre.
Learning resources - since we teach in English learners at our school have extended access to a variety of resources. We take good advantage of this.
Rotating teachers - we see it as benefit that children experience different teaching styles already in the primary school. It can be that children have different teachers for different subjects.
Own classroom - like in most schools each class has their own set classroom in which they spend most of their time. However we like to encourage children to spend time outdoors.
We are a school that will teach your children to study, comfortably orientate themselves abroad in English and in Czech.
We are looking forward to starting this journey with your children!
Jolly Phonics is an engaging way to teach children pre -reading and pre -writing skills using phonics. Phonics is the teaching of the sounds that letters make, rather than the names of letters that are taught in the alphabet, because it is the sounds that are useful for reading and writing, not the names. These sounds are taught in a systematic way, alongside all of the skills needed for being a fluent reader and writer in future. Jolly Phonics also teaches all of this in a fun and engaging way, through characters, stories, actions, songs and games! To read more about Jolly Phonics, clickhere.
ORT is a reading scheme which has been developed to help children learn to read from the age of 4. This scheme is used by a vast majority of preschools and schools in the UK and around the world.ORT includes popular characters and illustrations such as Biff, Chip and Kipper, Floppy, Wordless Stories and easy regular word books to capture children’s imagination and interest and help them develop their pre reading skills. It is an excellent way to practise the skills learned through the Jolly Phonics Programme..
Cambridge Primary ENGLISH promotes an enquiry-based approach, developing learners’ confidence, creativity and intellectual engagement. Learners develop English skills that they can apply to a range of different purposes and audiences in everyday situations and in study.
We teach English as a first language. Pupils that are only starting to learn English or need some additional support are allocated to our intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) programme.
More about Cambridge Primary EnglishCambridge Primary MATHEMATICS focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject. Knowing your times tables facts without practical application and without developing alongside some good problem solving skills is not that helpful - in our school, we make sure our pupils know why they are learning it and how they can use the specific knowledge and skill.
