A camp full of pirates and a terrifying Kraken can only mean one thing... a battle is on the horizon!
Last week of September was dedicated to Autumn camp. This year, primary and secondary pupils spent 3 days in the beautiful nature of the Vysočina Region, in the Nesměř Recreation Centre.
After an adventurous journey through narrow paths to the secluded recreation centre, the pupils checked in and went to their first lunch. After a short afternoon rest, the children were introduced to their guide, a pirate, who explained their main task – to beat the terrifying Kraken, which prevents pirates from sailing the seas, in battle.
The children were divided into two larger groups and then into crews of four to five members. Each crew chose their own name, created a pirate flag, built their own pirate ship from natural materials, and tested its sturdiness in the current of the River Oslava.
All activities were then aimed at strengthening relationships not only within the crew, but between all participants - pirates must stick together, right? The children supported each other in conquering rope obstacles and cooperated in solving various tasks.
Food for the hungry pirates was provided by the famous local camp kitchen and the atmosphere was enhanced by the perfect sunny weather throughout the three days. The children spent their free time exploring the natural beauty that the resort had to offer, most popularly on the banks of the Oslava River watching the crayfish.
On their first evening, the children exercised their brains during a quiz, which focused not only on their knowledge, but also on their judgement and estimation. Four rounds of five questions tested the children's knowledge of geography, sports, stories and interesting facts about our school. On the second evening, a campfire, including roasting sausages and singing camp songs, kept the children entertained. At the end of a busy day, the pupils enjoyed a disco under the stars.
The climax of the programme was the battle with the Kraken on Wednesday morning, in which the children were victorious, and by bringing the tentacles to their pirate guide they also earned a final treasure hunt.
It was great to watch the children bonding, creating new memories and gaining experience in a new environment. This year's Autumn camp was a real success and a wonderful end to the first month of the new school year. We hope everyone enjoyed it and look forward to next year!

Jolly Phonics is an engaging way to teach children pre -reading and pre -writing skills using phonics. Phonics is the teaching of the sounds that letters make, rather than the names of letters that are taught in the alphabet, because it is the sounds that are useful for reading and writing, not the names. These sounds are taught in a systematic way, alongside all of the skills needed for being a fluent reader and writer in future. Jolly Phonics also teaches all of this in a fun and engaging way, through characters, stories, actions, songs and games! To read more about Jolly Phonics, clickhere.
